Project 365
I’ve been attempting to take a photo a day - and intend on doing so for a full year. From time to time, I may also post some photos on this blog, with some notes about the photo.
And so, here’s my first:
This was my grandfather’s camera, a 1960s or 70s vintage Kowa/SIX. I’m assuming he purchased it used.
I took the photo in a homemade softbox, instructions courtesy the Strobist. My box uses a white sheet, which stands up better to the rigors of use and storage than does the recommended tissue paper. I’m using three 250 watt halogen work lights. I wish I knew what their color temperature is. Perhaps shooting an 18% gray card would be the thing. And even with a total of 750 watts of lighting power, it still seems like I don’t have quite enough light. But perhaps, given the above photo, I do.
My original intent was to bracket exposures, then create a high dynamic range photo. I wasn’t entirely pleased with how that turned out - not the least because the HDR process turned the background gray.
This one is probably just a tad overexposed, but the background is suitably blown out…and suitably white.
